A HUGE thank you to all of the wonderful parent volunteers who helped us on our field trip to Ride the Duck today. We had a blast and learned some great facts about Seattle, in-between learning some great songs and dancing!

Don't forget... 4th grade students have R and P 4-3 and the elapsed time 2-sided worksheet, both due on Monday.

Good afternoon. We had fun working on elapsed time during 4th grade math class this morning. We went to the library and then worked more on our lyric poetry during writers workshop. During readers workshop we applied our reading strategies to "Salt and Pepper at the Pike Place Market" and worked on our stamina and Daily 5 choices. The students went to PE and Spanish this afternoon.

Wednesday, May 16th

Good afternoon. We started the day with a beautiful Gospel message in mass this morning. We worked on our stamina and went shopping for books during readers workshop. After recess we had math class and the 4th grade students started working on their pizza math facts (division facts). The students went to art and then we ended the day with an assembly celebrating the Spring Musical.

Good afternoon! We were very busy today plotting decimals and fractions on a number line in 4th grade math. We started discussing Seattle history in social studies today and read "Larry Gets Lost in Seattle". During writers workshop we started lyric poetry and discussed how lyrics have repetition, rhyme and are meant to be sung. During readers workshop we worked on our stamina while I tested reading levels. After lunch the students enjoyed PE and music.

Wow, I am so blessed to work with such an amazing community. Thank you to all of the parents who made me feel so special. Most of all, a HUGE thank you to the beautiful cards I received from the students. I am so blessed to have all 27 of these students in my classroom. Thank you again and Happy Mother's Day to all of the wonderful mothers!

Thursday, May 10th

Happy Thursday. We started the day with our fraction/decimal unit test in 4th grade math. After math the students went to library and recess. During writers workshop we worked on Free Verse Poetry and during readers workshop we worked on building stamina while I met with individual students. After lunch the students had PE and time to work on their China brochures at the end of the day.

Good afternoon! We started the day with a beautiful mass the 2nd graders hosted to honor Mary! After mass we worked on daily 5 in readers workshop. During 4th grade math we did math facts, math facts, math facts with our watermelon. After art the students had lunch and then we ended the day with a penny harvest assembly.

Good afternoon. During 4th grade math we worked on our practice test-test on Thursday. During Social Studies we had a work day for our China brochures. During writers workshop we worked on finishing our free verse poems. During readers workshop we worked on stamina and applying our reading strategies. After lunch we had PE and then read more of Yang the Youngest and discussed cultural differences between the US and China.

Monday, May 7th

Happy Sunny Monday!! We started the day in 4th grade math with the very exciting announcement that the students have worked so hard they earned a standards/math fact party on Friday!! We then worked with rounding and estimating with fractions and decimals. During Religion we discussed the 7 Sacraments and the 3 categories they fall into (Service, Christian Initiation and Healing). During writers workshop we worked on the final copy of our Free Verse poem and will complete the collage tomorrow. During readers workshop we learned a new comprehension strategy called "Recognize and Explain Cause-and-Effect Relationships". Students then looked for cause and effect relationships in their good fit books. After lunch we had our first work day for the China brochures. We had a free recess they earned and then ended the day with keyboarding in the computer lab.

Happy Friday! Please don't forget to complete highlighting the key words and main ideas in your culture China packet for Monday. We'll start our brochures on Monday. Also, 4th grade students need to have all math fact watermelon (facts 2-12) cut out and on your ring ready for practice on Monday.

Good afternoon. We continued to organize and graph our math standards in 4th grade math today. The students went to library and then we learned about Free Verse in writers workshop. Students started brainstorming ideas for their free verse color poems. During readers workshop we worked on stamina and tested reading levels. After lunch students had PE and Spanish and then cleaned and prepared for our Celebration of Learning tonight.

Homework for tonight is very light due to the Celebration of Learning from 6:30-7:30:

During readers workshop we continued working on stamina and went shopping for good fit books. Celebration of Learning

I hope you all get a chance to come to Celebration of Learning this Thursday, May 3rd, from 6:30-7:30pm. The school is open during that hour for you to stop in and have your child lead you through what they have been working on in all subjects. Welcome back! We had fun today working more with converting decimals and fractions in 4th grade math. We also started comparing fractions and decimals on a number line today. During religion we discussed the definition of bullying and how to be assertive. During writers workshop we completed our repetition poems and organized our poetry booklets. During readers workshop we reflected on our reading strategies. After lunch we worked on learning more about China's land and people. We ended the day working our word processing skills in the computer lab.

Happy Monday afternoon. I hope you all get a chance to go outside and enjoy the sunshine this afternoon.
During 4th grade math we discussed how to convert fractions to decimals. During religion we took a quiz about the Easter season. We were able to celebrate the students' hard work with their informational booklets during writers workshop and had a publishing party. During readers workshop we reviewed the comprehension strategy of Use Text Features. After lunch we discussed the importance of Earth Day and made personal and individual goals to help make a positive impact on the environment. We ended the day working on our typing skills in the computer lab.

The students went to the library and then completed their final informational booklets in writers workshop today. During readers workshop we took a quiz on the CAFE strategies and practiced Daily 5. After lunch they had PE and Spanish and we discussed the cover of "Yang the Youngest and His Terrible Ear" which we will start reading together tomorrow to learn more about the Chinese culture.
